Research - Gilles et Dada

Gilles et Dada

Dada's work with duplication and displacement of certain areas of the object/person he is photographing is quite unique compared to most artists I have ever seen, such a simple design like this becomes powerful and effective. Dada has inspired me to use a technique similar to these in my own work but with my own style and overlays. Dada creates scenes, I wouldn't call them just portraits as each picture tells you something such as the third image on my post shows a dark and powerful piece and looks like its been sliced into a statue.

Research - Arnulf Rainer

ARNULF RAINER

Arnulf uses overlays in his work to express his feelings of the images. These overlays would be either a selection of certain paints, pencil, pen or charcoal. Arnulf makes a bold impact on his work with every image, sometimes it may be a wacky facial shape but mainly he works with leading lines such as the image above. Rainer is the only artist I like that has used this sort of design.

Initial Ideas

Proposal

PROPOSAL
In this assignment I am going to be entering the Melbourne Festival Emerging Talent Award 2014.
My thoughts on what I am going to do so far are to do with using light room drawings as a backdrop or overlay on my images. I think that this style of imagery would work well and I havent seen any images like it yet so therefore this may work in my favor. I also have wanted to incorporate graphic design work into my photos. This technique is like the light room except all the designing will be digitally created. I am looking towards portraiture and landscape work. With these ideas I will have to use software such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. The more subtle and not overpowered design the better as I dont want to make it look bad. The more aesthetically pleasing the better. I want it to be eye catching but without being to overpowered on what I am trying to show.
I will use people and scenery.
So far this what I want to do.
